This second volume, based on the bestselling novel, kicks off with another historical flashback that teases the nature of the secret and those those keen to obtain it for themselves. Back in present day New York the FBI agents are trying to get their collective heads around the fact that the man they fought so hard to arrest, and who offers them a chance at understanding the wider mystery of the museum theft, is now dead. Taking to the street in search of refreshment a back-firing truck offers an unexpected insight into the behaviour of the villains horses, and a possible lead, although once again their efforts are keeping them a few paces behind a ruthless adversary
Meanwhile Tess has been steered towards someone who may be able to shed some light on the Templars, but tracking him down isn’t proving straight-forward. A little cunning on her part takes her straight to her man, but she ends up with a little more than she bargained for as the pieces begin to fall into place.
There are certainly a few interesting deaths in this series, not least of which is the one that takes place at the stables in this issue. As we learn more of the robbery and the knights who conducted it we’re also fed the Vatican’s fears of the information getting out, hiking up the mystery as to who exactly is intent on what. Quite whether the pay off to all this murder and mistrust is worth it remains to be seen, but there’s plenty going on here to pique your interest along the way.
And if you liked that: Give Cinebook’s Largo Winch a read for an original take on the thriller genre.
