Papa Smurf inadvertently creates a twisted fertiliser potion that turns a simple daisy into a Smurf-eating carnivorous plant. He decrees the potion too dangerous and sends a pair of Smurfs off to dispose of it by burying it in the desert, but instead they take the easy option of dropping it down a nearby ravine. A splash falls upon a hatchling in its nest and before long the Smurf village is being terrorised by the mutated bird. It's typical Smurf fair, nicely presented with plenty of fun amongst the pages. The book also contains two shorter Smurf stories one of which looks very odd and somewhat lacking, as if it was created by someone else entirely, although it's only credited to Peyo.
Talking of odd-looking art, I've now seen some promo art for the Smurfs movie. They've tried to find a halfway house between the cartoon charm of the original characters and a human-like facial look to tie them in with the live action actors. I think it's fair to say they've failed…
And if you liked that: There are more on the way
