This is a very, very lovely book, following the everyday misadventures of Atari and Oliver, inhabitants of a near future city in Asia. Perhaps inhabitants isn't the right word, as the pair live on the streets, with their concerns seeming to centre around giant robots. It's a little quirky, beautifully drawn and painted, and a lot of fun.
It collects five stories from Eisner-nominated artist Sonny Liew, of which by far my favourite is New Year's Day, where a small robot is left behind in a bar by its owner and attempts to find its way home. Wonderful.
Another notable tale is Bicycle where Liew uses his adept art skills to tell a large chunk of the story through several pages of cartoon strips and funnies mirroring popular strips and single panel cartoons. Very clever, and amazingly executed.
It would be a terrible shame if this was overlooked, so, if you get the chance, take a peek as I'm sure you'll enjoy.
And if you liked that: Try Liew's My Faith In Frankie
