Cartoonists are, by nature, habitual doodlers, but John Kenn Mortensen takes this a step further. His day job is writing and illustrating children's TV shows, but when he's not doing that he draws cartoons of monsters…on rectangular yellow Post-it notes.
There are no gags here, although the bleak, black humour of some can cause a wry smile; instead these are about the sheer simplistic joy of doodling. But these are no idle scribbles but lovingly detailed cartoon illustrations rendered with fine line work.
Gigantic beast heads peering over hills at unsuspecting mortals, hideous leviathans raising themselves from the depths, and floating monstrosities dogging the heels of the innocent. Never gory, but definitely somewhat macabre, this is page after page of curiosities all rendered on everyday office sticky yellow notes. Wonderfully done.
