Hellboy Vol 12: The Storm & The Fury

It’s been a long-time coming, but the events that have shaped Hellboy’s life on Earth are coming together, thread by thread. Since breaking away from the BPRD some time ago now, Hellboy has wandered the world, often with a fair few drinks inside him, to finally stumble upon the shores of Britain, and it’s here, it seems, that everything may be coming to a climax. Despicable characters from Hellboy’s past collide with revelations, answers and the inevitable further questions, and not forgetting King Arthur. It all gets a bit bloody.

The events of this book feed directly into the broken world being experienced in BPRD, and what happens in the end is a bit of a shocker.

Duncan Fegredo is doing an exceptional job on this book, complimenting and enhancing Mignola’s vision of Hellboy with a deeper level of detail – a perfect fit. Mignola has been doing an outstanding job of driving the various stories across a number of titles forward so that they are coherent and progressive, and what’s most satisfying is that this isn’t a situation where heroes put everything back to normal by the final page – instead they are barely holding back the deluge which makes this, and the other titles, a much more compelling and interesting read.

I particularly like the hedgehog character in this one – nicely designed and cleverly executed – but he’s just one of many ambitious and satisfying elements within the book.

The question now is, what next for Hellboy?

And if you liked that: You should be reading BPRD too
