There have been many twists and turns in the life of XIII as he struggles to discover who he is and the truth about what he may or may not have done. After the last episode's dramatic escape XIII, Jones and Barnowsky must now get back to the US to halt the attempted coup by those really behind the Presidential assassination.
It's all moving along at a cracking pace, but Van Hamme's aim here is to tie up certain plot threads into a sort of season finale, so through the course of the book we go from Central America to the southern USA to the American High Command's secret base, where our team need to infiltrate the security and stop the plot.
Once again Van Hamme's writing holds everything together effortlessly, and Vance's artwork keeps pace with the wildly different scenes, settings and characters. Plenty of action, plenty of intrigue and as many answers as there are new questions, but this cinematic vision keeps you satisfied and wanting more.
