Following on directly from volume 3, the plan is to press ahead with the ceremony in Kuala Lumpur even though it's still not clear what is responsible for the deaths out in the mangrove forest. What's more, there's a brooding tension between Caleb – keen to more events forward – and Mezoke wishing to take a step back.
When the aggrieved fisherman begin to riot it almost spells the end for both of them, but they are fortunate to be saved by the leader of the Fishermen's Federation who also offers a decent chance of calming the tension. But when a further death is discovered amongst the mangroves, plus news of just what the danger may be, it becomes clear that the threat may be far worse than anyone could have feared.
Some decent, intelligent writing, mixing politics, intrigue, murder and adventure, combined with an original artistic vision of the future (and some great alien designs) make this a cracking read. Put it on your reading list.
