You really don't need me to introduce you to Giles, so I shan't waste your time on that score. This year's collection is, somewhat bizarrely, introduced by Adam Hart-Davis. I have nothing against the fella, but not really sure what it adds to the book.
The collection is broken up into five sections, titled 'Stinker', 'Strikes', 'Rural Life', 'Vicars', and 'Olympic Games', with each section populated by suitable selections from the vast Giles archive. There are the gloriously detailed urban streets, chaotic crowd scenes and meticulous detail you've come to expect, and most have some sort of topical context that, this many years later, has become an historical one. This means it's not always clear what that context is, other than a bit of guidance from the date the cartoon appeared, but somehow it doesn't stop the gag from working, which is all part of the Giles charm.
An easy book to recommend. Enjoy.
