This fantastically inventive sci-fi series continues with Kim heading off to the new planet with a packed ship of pioneers and, not forgetting, her hybrid daughter. The opening chapter is undeniably bleak, with Kim battered from all sides by events that seem to be running out of her control, and this all taking place in a confined and overcrowded environment.
To make matters worse, once they arrive planet side the advance party that vetted the planet's suitability are immediately on hand to warn the newcomers that they strongly advise against any colonisation event following the evaporation of one of their number.
Then the cargo shuttle, with further passengers on board, heads down from orbit and hits difficulties resulting in a crash thousands of miles off target. Kim's chosen as part of the rescue party sending her deeper into danger and the unknown.
I really do like this series, especially the quirky alien oddities that make up the fauna of the Antares world. Leo's handling of the humans' attempt at survival in such an inhospitable environment whilst overcoming such immense obstacles is done with skill and artistic flair. Because it is so far away from the formulas of Hollywood you're getting a story with genuine inventiveness and inspired ideas wrapped in a dramatic and bold adventure.
And if you liked that: The next part of Anatres is on the horizon…
