This is the conclusion to volume 5's See Venice… and finds Largo well and truly in at the deep end. Charity has been kidnapped and the police claim they are too small a force to adequately deal with the matter, so Largo is left to his own resources (and if we've learned anything so far, Largo is quite capable of doing this). One of those resources is Tyler, his personal butler, who proves his worth immediately when gunmen pounce on Domenica's studio.
The answers appear to lie with the Doge, his excellency the Duke Francesco Leridan, so Largo's plan is to attend the masked ball at the Doge's palace and attempt to uncover any clues as to Charity's whereabouts. With a little cunning he achieves this only to discover that he's expected and the answers he seeks lead him to a greater danger.
Beautifully illustrated and with a Van Hamme script firing on all cylinders, this often feels more like cinema than a graphic novel. Fabulous action, clever twists and a glorious setting make Largo Winch one of the best series out there.
