Well, this is it. The final volume. I've tried to be careful with these reviews not to give away the twists, and that's going to be pretty much the case for the whole book in this instance. It seems that after all this effort by the creative team, for me to give away plot points at this juncture would be a little unfair to everyone. Suffice to say, the enormous endeavour is given a respectful and apt conclusion, and even at his late stage of the game leaves time for some action, betrayal and surprises.
It's difficult to appreciate just what an important series XIII is without picking it up yourself. A complex, intelligent thriller that engages and challenges the reader, and woven together across multiple volumes and years. And all magnificently bought to life by Vance's detailed, atmospheric artwork.
Van Hamme and Vance's creation is one of the classics of the medium, so if you enjoy comics and graphic storytelling then XIII deserves to sit on your bookshelf.
And if you enjoyed that: You can look forward to Van Hamme's newest book from Cinebook, Wayne Shelton
