The current model for cartoon strip syndication means that many modern strips are just bland, uninspiring and, frankly unfunny. Fortunately for the readers of the South Wales Argus, their regular strip is for them alone, so CCGB member Tim Harries has a freer hand to be as silly, wacky and daft as he likes, and the result is a genuinely funny strip.
It’s based around Dai Morgan, a regular 21st Century guy (ie, rather baffled by it all) and his family. Tim’s been drawing the strip for fifteen years now, but it’s still fresh and inventive, and above all funny, covering topics such as the zombie apocalypse, picture hanging and yurts.
We can all recognise a bit of ourselves in Dai (trying to round up to the nearest pound while filling with petrol, struggling with wi-fi) and it’s Tim’s ability to merge the everyday with the absurd and the cleverly observed that makes Never Say Dai one of the best strips out there. One for your bookshelf.
And if you liked that: There are two other collections and Tim’s gag cartoon collection available direct from
