Fluffy is a little white bunny coming to terms with growing up in a human world. Think Paddington, but with a little more edge. There’s an unmistakable charm here, plenty of humour, and a smidge of melancholy as Fluffy sets out to write a self-help book to navigate finding where he belongs.
He starts by looking at other self-help authors to see what makes them all experts. It turns out, he discovers, that they’ve all written self-help books, so if he writes one he’ll be seen as an expert too. This circular thinking sets the tone for a determined but misguided wandering, where Fluffy assesses past choices, current failures and future options. And it’s flipping great.
Much of the humour comes from this weird juxtaposition of people accepting him in a human world for half the time, and just wanting to pick him up and stroke his ears for the rest. No wonder he feels mixed up. Simone Lia handles it all gently, but with a sharp eye for social awkwardness, anxiety and self-doubt. You’ll see something of yourself in Fluffy, and you can’t help but love him for it.
And if you liked that: Simone Lia’s first book, Fluffy, is also available
